How to quickly get LOTS of info on the packages attached to an R session

October 26, 2012
sessionInfo()$otherPkgs

It basically just prints out all of the package description files for all attached packages (i.e. not base packages). By using the $ to extract the otherPkgs element of the list created by sessionInfo(), you avoid the special print method for such lists, which hides a lot of info—sometimes this is good and sometimes not so much.

EDIT: Here’s another way of thinking about it: Compare sessionInfo() with print.default(sessionInfo()).
